NBC Today Show Viral Magic Video: Pepsi Max Campaign – Dynamo The Magician Floats In Air Next To London Double-Decker Bus (June 25, 2013)

The following Today show video shows a magic trick in London that was sponsored by Pepsi Max. A magician named Dynamo appears to be floating next to a double-decker bus, while touching the bus with only one hand. This video aired on the June 25, 2013 episode of Today.

Anchor Natalie Morales says she thinks the arm is fake, and that there is some kind of harness involved. Yeah, the arm is probably not a real arm. But how is the magician held in place. That assumes this is not a camera trick. But the video shows people on the street appearing to watch in amazement as the magician goes by.

In the article lined to above, the Daily Mail shows how this trick might have been done. It uses metal supports in the fake arm and around the body of the magician to hold him in place.

NBC Today Show Video Interview: Couples From “Newlyweds: The First Year,” A New Bravo Reality TV Show (May 3, 2013)

The following Today show clip contains an interview with two of the couples from a new Bravo reality TV show. The program is called “Newlyweds: The First Year.” It features 4 newlywed couples in all. This video aired on the May 3, 2013 episode of Today.

The basic gist of this new TV program is to show both the good and bad parts of being a newlywed and of these particular four relationships.

Basically nothing else in the interview is worth summarizing.

Notes:

It’s reality TV. At this point in time, there isn’t a single reality TV show that I trust not to dramatize, edit, and pull other tricks. Producers are notorious for not believing that the truth is good enough to entertain America. As for “Newlyweds: The First Year,” the couples interviewed here were not the least bit interesting, and the black guy looks like he got his fashion from an 80s music video. I’d look at this new reality show like all others – it may be reality, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

There’s also something extremely odd about the premise of the show. why would newlyweds even be on a show whose partial goal is to show problems in a relationship? Yes, we know problems happen. But why would couples even start filming a show that is partially designed to highlight problems? You DON’T want problems in a relationship. All the show’s premise does is invite the couples, writers, and producers to “create” problems for drama purposes. No way would two loving newlyweds intentionally create problems that were real. But they might create fake ones for the camera.

NBC Today Show Video Interview: Transgendered Mom Jennifer Finney Boylan, Wife Deedie Boylan, And Son Zach (May 3, 2013)

The following Today show clip contains an interview with a transgendered mom. Her name is Jennifer Finney Boylan. Jennifer was born as a man and even entered into a relationship with Deedie Boylan. It was after they were together that Jennifer transitioned to become a girl. Jennifer and Deedie have two sons, Zach and Sean. Zach is also interviewed for this segment. The video aired on the May 3, 2013 episode of Today. Willie Geist is the host.

Jennifer used to be Jim, a college professor. It wasn’t until the age of 44 that she came out as transgendered. Boylan also wrote a book called “She’s Not There: A Life In Two Genders.” Jennifer now has a new book called “Stuck In The Middle With You.”

The family has stayed together despite these challenges. Jennifer says it is because she and Deedie are good parents.

Willie Geist asked about when Jim revealed he is transgendered. She said it was a series of moments, not just one revelation. He then asked if she thought about breaking up with Jennifer. She said she didn’t really want to be married to a woman. But she never reached that breaking point where a breakup actually occurs. Rather, she was scared of the future and what would happen.

Jennifer Boylan then talked about having mixed emotions before totally revealing that he was transgendered. On the one hand, he didn’t want to teach his kids that it is okay to live a lie. On the other hand, he is their protector and would now be the problem instead of the problem solver. But he eventually decided that you have to be true to yourself first.

Zach said he hasn’t really had anything negative said to him about his parents.

They then talked about Jennifer being called “Maddie” in the family. This is half “Daddy” and half “Mommy.”

But the funniest part of this video is the dancing of the Today hosts. Savannah Guthrie and Tamron Hall kind of dance to “Gangnam.” But the real laughs were from David Gregory and Al Roker.

David actually did a pretty good “Gangnam Style” dance. But Al was hilarious in a comedy sort of way. He was LOL bad. But it was funny and had the desired effect.
