Jessica Sanchez has made it to the Top 5 on American Idol 11. She has avoided the bottom 3 the past two weeks after being saved by the judges in the Top 7. A lot of people just assumed that Jessica was the favorite, but that is far from the truth. She is still learning how to sing, although some of her performances are already fantastic, such as her Top 6 performance of “Dance With My Father.” And personality wise, she just doesn’t seem super comfortable in her own skin. I think she needs to be the best singer by far to make it to the finale, and duds like “Bohemian Rhapsody” are not going to help her cause.
For the Top 5, Jessica will sing a song from the 60s and a British song. The 60s theme should be good for Jessica to explore her more soulful side with the growls and such. The British song choice probably should be a ballad to contrast against the soul song for the 60s theme.
I will use this article to recap Jessica Sanchez’s performance and song choice for the 60s theme. You can find the article for the British-theme song from my home page. I am also writing articles on the Top 5 performances of Philip, Joshua, Hollie, and Skylar.
Jessica sang Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.” She did a little dancing, which I’m sure she will admit is not her forte. This song is way overdone, so you need to bring something special to it. Randy said it was just okay. The other judges liked it.
