Tony Vincent is a bit of a Broadway veteran. He has been in shows like “Rent,” “American Idiot” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Tony was going to do a Queen production, as well. Apparently, that didn’t work out for some unknown reason. A lot of people complain when people like this end up on the show, but it’s not like Tony Vincent is a household name. He has had Broadway success, but The Voice is a show looking for a solo recording artist. Those are two totally different things, so I don’t have any problem with his being on the show.
Vincent gave a credible rendition of “We Are the Champions” in his blind audition. For some reason, only Cee Lo turned his chair, so that means Tony is automatically on Cee Lo’s team. I’d give Tony a better than 50% chance of winning his upcoming Battle Round audition.
On the other hand, I don’t see Tony winning the Voice 2. There is a reason he is on Broadway. He really is like another Constantine Maroulis. Both of them have been in productions of “Rent.” But just like Constantine came up short, I predict Tony will, too. He is somewhat arrogant and puts off an air of superiority. That won’t go over well with fans. And his rock voice is a lot like Constantine’s: in the end, they come off as having a decent voice but try to be more than what they can really be as a singer. This guy is not a rocker, and he is not a pop star. Tony Vincent may have the acting and other combined skills to be on Broadway, but it doesn’t nicely fit in the package of a solo singer.
With that said, talent is talent. And I believe he has enough talent to win his Battle Round unless the producers want to kick him to the curb right away for some unknown reason. Other things could also happen. Tony could also suddenly get another Broadway gig and decide to go for that, instead. As long as he is in this to win it, though, I’d expect Tony to win his Battle Round but go out a round or two after that.
