Joshua Ledet American Idol 11 (2012) Top 13 Predictions (Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish”)

Joshua Ledet has made the Top 13 round on American Idol’s 11th season. He has been featured as one of the favorites so far. Armed with a strong voice, soulful vocal tone and confident stage skills, he has easily made it past the Top 24 and was voted into the Top 10 by the public (the judges picked 3 wildcards to make a Top 13).

Now that we are in the Top 13, Joshua should have no problem for at least a few weeks as long as he makes good song choices. That should be pretty easy for him since he has the versatility to handle multiple genres in both softer and harder formats. The only mistakes I see him making are picking a song that is too soft from start to end or one that focuses too much on power notes. He just needs to pick songs that have their high points to show his power and some softer points to show his ability to use finesse in delivering an emotional performance.

As for winning, he has some issues in terms of personality. Not too many casual folks are going to identify with a seemingly gay church singer. He won’t even get the Christian vote from a certain segment of that demographic because of his perceived nature. This is NOT my opinion. I have him in my Top 3 at this point, but the truth is American Idol is also a popularity contest. And he is going to have trouble winning this side of the competition.

At any rate, look for Joshua Ledet to easily get through the Top 13 and on to next week.

So Joshua said that “I Wish” was out of his comfort zone, and it doesn’t help that he is going first (bad for votes). Overall, Josh is kicking some butt on this song. He is working the stage, and the growl is awesome. Normally, going first is so bad. But that should be enough to stay out of the bottom. Even if it isn’t, he can be saved because the judges are going to pick between the lowest guy and girl. There’s no way Josh is going home.
