The following MSNBC lottery news video aired on the December 7, 2012 episode of the NBC Nightly News. Previously, a Missouri couple from Dearborn, Mark and Cindy Hill, had already announced their big win in the recent record-setting $580 million Powerball jackpot (about $578 million). There were two winning tickets - one each from Missouri and Arizona.
Now, the Arizona ticket holders finally came forward. They are a couple in their 30s who are from the Phoenix, Arizona area. Their home is in Fountain Hills, which NBC’s Brian Williams said is a wealthy Phoenix suburb.
Under Arizona state lottery laws, winners may choose to remain anonymous. And that is what this winning couple has chosen to do for now.
Note: A guy from Maryland who had claimed to be one of the Powerball winners and was seen on tape celebrating at an Exxon station in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, appears to have been joking around or something. And in that story, there were other people who claimed they saw the numbers and said he won. Those people were either in on a trick or just stupidly assumed that the guy had all the numbers and didn’t look very closely to confirm.
