MSNBC And NBC Nightly News Health Video: Danish Study Says Childless Women 4 Times More Likely To Die Prematurely; Having Kids Means Longer Life

The following MSNBC health news video aired on the December 6, 2012 episode of the NBC Nightly News. Brian Williams is reporting.

This was a very short report that simply discussed the results of the study. It said that Danish researchers discussed this study with over 20,000 couples. Theories about the reasons for the study results were not discussed.

At any rate, this Danish study found that having a child can actually make women live longer. Childless women were found to be 4 times more likely to die prematurely than women who had children. Even women who adopted lived longer. So the reason for the longer life wouldn’t be strictly based on a physical cause related to having a baby. So what is the reason childless females are more likely to die prematurely? Is it because women are happier? Is it because women with children have more loved ones to look after them as they start to get older?
