Katrina Parker has made it to the Top 8 semifinal round on The Voice 2. She is up against Tony Lucca, who a lot of people consider the favorite to win the whole contest. In fact, Tony had the highest ranking among all contestants on iTunes during the Top 16 with his performance of Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time.”
This may seem like a runaway Top 8 loss for Katrina Parker, but there are several things to consider. First, both Katrina and Tony improved dramatically in iTunes sales during the Top 16. Although Tony was first, Katrina jumped to around 45 or 50, which was not really that far behind Tony. However, we do know that Tony got the most overall votes.
The other thing to consider is the pimping of Katrina by the judges. Adam talks as if he prefers Katrina over Tony, but my guess is he will end giving either 50/50 or something like 55/45 for his half of the Top 8 vote. Katrina would probably need Adam to give her 70 to 75 out of 100 points to overcome the likely lead that Lucca has in the public voting. We also have to keep in mind two things. Not only does Tony Lucca personally have over 500,000 Twitter followers, but Justin Timberlake is also rallying votes for him on Twitter.
In the end, Katrina Parker most likely needs to get bailed out by Adam Levine to have a chance of winning against Tony in the Top 8 and advancing to the finale of The Voice 2.
Live Show:
Katrina Parker is singing The Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly.” Adam says it is great in rehearsals. I’ll laugh so hard if he gives Katrina 75 points, ensuring that he won’t possibly win next week.
Lauren Hill is overrated as a singer, and this is another performance that will be overrated by the judges. Does that mean teammate Tony Lucca was better? No, I think it is close. But Adam is always overpraising Katrina. And loudmouth Christina sends a hint to Adam to give Katrina more points than Tony.
