Sarah Golden is a singer on the 2nd season of the NBC reality competition The Voice. She is on Cee Lo Green’s team and will compete against a Cee Lo teammate in the Battle Rounds in the next phase of the competition.
Sarah’s backstory sounds like it’s full of hogwash to me. She claims she talked to record labels and that they don’t want her because of her image (that they want her to change her image). I can certainly believe that they would not want her because of her image. These record-industry folks are as shallow as they come these days. But what is pure hogwash is that she made it sound like she doesn’t have a record deal cause she doesn’t want to change her image. This is bogus. No, they just gave her a flat-out “No.” There was no offer to give a record deal if she changes her image.
At any rate, I was, like always, prepared to just hear her sing. I don’t base my opinions on looks. I think that’s one of the dumbest things I have ever heard (judging a singer on looks). But when I listened to Sarah Golden sing, I was frankly disappointed. I thought we were going to hear a great singer who just wasn’t marketable in the looks department. I can support that, but all I heard was an average singer.
Sarah’s entire appearance on the show seems like another political stunt. The Voice certainly likes to challenge the typical image of current pop stars. That is great and should be applauded. But how about finding some good singers to do that with? Sarah is just an average singer, and she will accomplish nothing. She may win her Battle Round, but it is her singing that will sink her in the next round if she does.
Note: Even beautiful women change their looks to some degree when they get a record deal and become singing stars. Sarah Golden’s attitude stinks if she really thinks that there is something wrong with improving your image if you are a public performer. It’s hogwash.
