American Idol 11 (2012) Top 7 iTunes Studio Version of Jessica Sanchez’s “Stuttering”

Jessica Sanchez sang Jazmine Sullivan’s “Stuttering” for Top 7 Week on American Idol 11. At the time, I wrote that she sang well, but that the song sucked. And I still say the song sucks, and that may have been why she was shockingly in the bottom 3 on the results show.

Elise, Joshua, and Jessica hit the bottom 3, but then the judges came up together on stage and saved Sanchez with their one judges’ save, presumably setting it up for two contestants to be eliminated next week.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. No saved contestant has ever won American Idol. Was this a trick by the producers for ratings? I don’t think so. Both Joshua and Jessica had poor song choices. Even the mentors were worried that the fans would not be familiar with Jazmine Sullivan’s “Stuttering.” And Joshua should have gone the safe route and picked “Grenade” or “Just the Way You Are” if he was going to pick a Bruno Mars song.

Check out Jessica’s iTunes studio version of “Stuttering” in the link below. This is my favorite iTunes performance of the week. No, I do not think she should have been bottom 3. But song choice is that important on American Idol.
