The Voice 2 Top 24 Juliet Simms Performance (The Police’s “Roxanne”)

Juliet Simms has a very growly voice. While that is certainly a positive attribute that has made her one of the favorites on Cee Lo Green’s team in the Top 24 of The Voice 2, there is such a thing as overkill.

Juliet seems to growl on every single note through a performance. I’m not sure why she is doing this, but it is going to grate on some people’s nerves and potentially cause her to lose votes.

I hope Simms can dial back all the growling to some degree and show a more varied perfomance in the Top 24. As of now, I’d still put her and Tony Vincent as the favorites to make the finals on Cee Lo’s team (one from each of four teams makes the finals). However, I give her low odds of actually winning. I have never seen a singing contest where that kind of voice won. Never.

Juliet is singing The Police’s “Roxanne.” I can tell already this is designed to get her to the next round. She has a lot of power in spots, but she loses control in some spots. Overall, this is going to be one of the best performances of the night. She should easily make the Top 16 after this. I wouldn’t say this is super, but on a night that just isn’t very good, this stands out from the crowd.

I don’t think you could be further off track if you tried. She has given the most authentic performances of anyone, and in this round she was so much more of a natural than any of the others. She just keeps getting better, and even Adam said she’s the best so far.

      Reading is your friend, shadyharbor.

I said this in the article: Overall, this is going to be one of the best performances of the night. She should easily make the Top 16 after this.

      Typical selective Internet reading.

    Just how arrogant are you?

That was an incredibly condescending response and way off track. I wasn’t limiting my response to last night’s performance and I don’t believe that Adam Levine was either when he said “You’re the best performance I’ve seen so far.” He didn’t say “…so far tonight.”

This tactic of attacking my point by suggesting that I hadn’t read your entire post clearly shows your arrogance and ignorance. You have no idea how much of your post I’d read before writing my response.

So, to stoop to your level, let me just say this: thoroughness is your friend, Jimmy Boyd.

You used a quote from your post to prove your point but truncated it. If you had used the concluding sentence in your response, it would have weakened your argument.

    Typical selective recall.

      LMAO.

Talk about selective. Adam said Jamar is the one who embodied the competition ( and Jamar went after Juliet). You are being selective about that.

No, I did not deny making some negative comments about Juliet. But she was great last night, so I gave credit where credit is due. The other parts of the article were written before the performance, and I stand by the fact that she will not win if she distorts almost every single note like she did before. But she had cleaner notes last night, leading to a better performance.

Look, one of us will be proven right, maybe you, maybe me. And if it is you, I’ll suck it up and give you your dues. But regardless of that, this could have been a civil discussion between two who disagree. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out that way.

I assume you know the saying most often attributed to Mark Twain: “Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”

Well, this is where I bow out of the argument because it is getting harder and harder to tell the difference.

        But, “LMAO.” Really?

How old are you? Does your daddy know you are responding on his blog?

        JK … LOL … JK

I’m sure there is enough criticism to go around for all the contestants but for me Juliet raised the emotional bar for for the entire group. Her interpretation was intimate and poignant and hopefully an omen of her next composition.

You win! The smooth voice wins over raw talent. You were right.
