Is American Idol 11′s Joshua Ledet Gay?

Joshua Ledet is one of my favorite contestants on American Idol 11. I’ve seen a lot of people searching for an answer regarding his sexual orientation. When I see Josh Ledet, I do see a blip on my gaydar. But I could obviously be wrong about this. I’m sure people are asking this question because they get the same vibe.

I am not aware of any public information which says one way or another whether Joshua is gay. However, I do know from the show that Joshua is a pastor’s son. This would tend to make it less likely that Josh would be openly gay, but anything is possible. The point is I wouldn’t necessarily be expecting a public statement any time soon on Ledet’s sexuality.

For what it’s worth, Joshua’s Facebook says he is interested in women.

American Idol does not encourage gays and lesbians to come out. The Voice is completely opposite and practically embraces that as part of a person’s persona. In fact, two lesbians even made the final 4 in the first season of The Voice. Idol is a show that tends to downplay sexuality in general, so I don’t see this as a problem. If you want to flaunt your sexuality, American Idol is just not the show you should be participating in as a contestant.

“Idol is a show that tends to downplay sexuality in general”

Sorry, but this is an absolutely ludicrous statement. It’s like saying ‘Dancing With the Stars’ has absolutely nothing to do with the romantic interaction of men and women. Hello? Basically 99.999% of every lyric of every song on Idol has to do with blatant heterosexual love, heterosexual lust, heterosexual grinding, heterosexual broken hearts, heterosexual desire, heterosexual romance, ad nauseum. To say that sexuality is downplayed is totally insane. THAT IS THE BASIS OF THE WHOLE SHOW (AND ALL POP MUSIC ITSELF)!

    • Jimmy Boyd says:

Talk about missing the point. I was referring to the sexuality of the contestants and their private lives, not the content of the music. You made that whole argument for nothing. LOL. Did you not even read my comparison to The Voice?

      • Darnell says:

My point completely went over the top of your head. You confirmed the double standard perfectly when you said “I was referring to the sexuality of the contestants and their PRIVATE lives.” Sorry, but someone’s sexual orientation is not a top secret issue to be kept very hidden. That’s why 99.9999% of all song lyrics are about love, sex, and romance and the same with most movies and a huge percentage of dramas on tv. When the judges or Ryan on Idol frequently quip about “Wow, the girls were really screaming for you” or show the bio pieces on the contestants and their girlfriends or boyfriends, they are not saying “We must keep sexuality hidden because it is so private and unmentionable.” Only right-wing homophobes like you try to perpetuate this lie that everyone keeps their orientation private, when in reality you just want gays to remain closeted.

        • Jimmy Boyd says:

LOL. I knew you had some kind of agenda. And you deduce I am a right-wing homophobe how? Did I criticize The Voice for airing the homosexuality of its contestants? No. You are one of those people who has an ax to grind but can’t even recognize who is the enemy and who isn’t. I happen to believe in gay rights, including marriage.

And you don’t read very well. Where did I say Idol doesn’t touch on the issue at all? I said they “tend to downplay” it. Compare it to the more open sexuality you see on MTV, for example, to see what I mean.

I am trying to perpetuate a lie that everyone keeps their orientation private? Geez, you don’t read well. I gave as an example The Voice, where people like Nakia even had their boyfriend on the show. You are just talking nonsense now. I never said I agree with American Idol. I was just stating a fact. LOL. You falsely infer a lot of things, Darnell.

Finally, it’s hilarious that you mention heterosexuality in pop songs. Dude, most people are heterosexual, so that’s hardly a surprise now, is it? People are writing to the larger audience, but many songs would work both ways because they don’t actually mention gender. Do you want affirmative action in song lyrics for homosexuality now? LOL.

Sorry, you don’t get to set the agenda for every TV show. It’s the network’s money. They will promote or not promote whatever message they want. Idol isn’t a show about gay rights, dude. Get off your high horse.

As an aside, what if someone simply is not out even though they are suspected to be gay? Only a fool couldn’t see that Clay and Adam were gay. But they expressed no desire to have that be part of the show. Clay was definitely in the closet, and Adam has said it was not relevant to the show. You want to out them on national TV, Darnell? Please give me one example of someone who wanted to publicly display their homosexuality on Idol and was told no by the producers. As far as I know, there isn’t a single one. But even if there were such a person, it would just simply prove my original point that they downplay these things.

You sound like you’re really fixated on sexuality, dude. Have a chill pill and enjoy your life. I wrote an article for fun wondering out loud whether Joshua Ledet was gay. There was NO political statement in my article whatsoever.

  2. Darnell says:

Perfect example on tonight’s show. The skinny white judge (forget his name) went on and on about Joshua needing to get the number of the tall white dancer. The other white judge, Jennifer, then joined in and they kept saying how he’s going to get a lot of lady’s numbers and he needs to get them (and by inference pump women). The whole exchange was disgusting, but won’t even raise a blip on the radar of heterosexism America. But it displayed perfectly about how the show DOES NOT tamp down or try to minimize sexual orientation …. UNLESS it’s a gay person.

    • Jimmy Boyd says:

How do you know he’s gay, Darnell? Your argument assumes Josh is gay. Do you know him personally? His Facebook says he is interested in women. And once again, I already explained to you someone would have to be gay PLUS want to come out on national TV. Where is your evidence that Joshua is gay AND wants to come out on national TV on a singing contest (it’s not a dating show, man).

    • Jimmy Boyd says:

LOL. Is this your video, Darnell? If it is, I have to chuckle even more. Idol supports gay contestants being successful. Two of the most successful are gay. Their job is to make people singing stars, not to promote homosexuality. I guess you will never get it. The contestants are there to sing, not to out themselves. You really are stubborn beyond belief.

  3. Darnell says:

“How do you know he’s gay, Darnell?”

How do you know he’s heterosexual? Once again you proved my point just like that white judge on the show.

    • Jimmy Boyd says:

You are troubled, Darnell. There’s nothing wrong with presuming someone to be straight until told otherwise. You have a very twisted view of the world.
