Philip Phillips is the Top Dog of American Idol 11. I’m not sure if anyone can topple this King of The Hill. Going into the Top 5, he has not been in the bottom 3 yet. And this is true even when he has a so-so week. The public vote seems to be in his favor to win.
For Top 5 Week, Philip and the others are singing two songs - one from the 60s and one British pop song. The 60s is a good theme for Philip. Any soulful song is right up his alley, and the 60s were full of that.
The British choice doesn’t necessarily seem as fitting, but that is a hugely broad theme. And at this point, why reinvent the wheel? The fans have already spoken and said they like Philip just the way he is. So he will probably be okay in the Top 5 and forward if he picks any song and does it in his personal style.
This article will recap Philip’s 60s song and live performance. I am writing another article to highlight his British song choice. Check my home page for all of my American Idol 11 Top 5 articles.
Philip is singing The Box Tops’ “The Letter.” He changed it up quite a bit. I don’t like the arrangement all that much. The vocal was pretty good. I think he did what he needed to do, but it was more about the instrumentals than the vocals.
