World Series of Poker Expands to Asia-Pacific Region for April 2013

The World Series of Poker took place exclusively in Las Vegas until 2007. At that time, the organization started the WSOP-E for Europe. The World Series of Poker - Europe series took place in London until the last one in 2011. It then moved to Cannes, France.

The WSOP APAC will hold its inaugural series in April of 2013. It takes place from the 4th to the 15th, and players will have a chance to win 5 gold bracelets. Some have seen this worldwide expansion as a bad thing, particularly in light of the bracelet race. But it could just as easily be argued that an organization that purports to crown a “world” champion should be more accessible to players in other parts of the world who may have a hard time making it to Las Vegas every year.

The Crown casino will be the home of first World Series of Poker for the Asian-Pacific region.

What is not clear is how the bracelets and leaderboard points will count toward the Player of the Year. At present, the Las Vegas series starts out the Player of the Year race, and it finishes in the WSOP-Europe, which is in October or November. But because the WSOP APAC is in April, it presumably would need to be the starting leg of the Player of the Year race.
