Still Looking For the Mega Millions $640 Million Lottery Winner

People are acting crazy in Maryland over this Mega Millions jackpot win. A woman by the name of Mirlande Wilson claims to have one of the 3 winning tickets, but lottery officials say she has not turned in a winning ticket or even contacted the lottery, according to USA Today.

The other funny part of this story is that Wilson works at McDonald’s, and her co-workers claim she bought tickets as part of an office pool of lottery players. But she is apparently not even the winner, anyway.

Maryland lottery officials know that someone purchased a winning ticket at a 7-Eleven in Baltimore County, but no one has claimed their one-third of the massive $650 million jackpot.

It is not that uncommon for lawsuits to crop up after someone wins a lottery. Office pools are a common thing, and some people get greedy awfully fast when they realize they are in physical possession of a winning lottery ticket.

By the way, the general rule is that you do not need any kind of written contract to enforce these agreements. Under the Statute of Frauds, some state laws typically say that you need a written contract for the sale of goods over $500 or another amount. But that is simply not true with lottery players joining as a group because no actual product or service is being purchased among the players.
