Simply put, you are welcome to add content for backlinks as an international writer, but you must be providing the same high-quality SEO articles as everyone else.

How This Works

This is very simple. When you write an article per our instructions (we are very lenient as long as you give us good, useful content in your articles), you earn one share in the lifetime profit pool. You don’t have to worry about writing an article that gets no traffic or AdSense clicks or whatever. You don’t have to track the number of visits because you are NOT paid on visits to your articles.

Simply put, you get a share for every article you complete whether or not it gets traffic and whether or not it earns revenue from the search engines or other sources. The sky is the limit on what you can earn.

Example: One article I wrote for HubPages got 8000 visitors overnight. On the other hand, some articles I have written have still gotten ZERO traffic. In the world of SEO, you will have some duds like this that don’t perform. It’s not even your fault. That’s just the nature of the SEO business.

We have taken that problem out of the equation. Instead, you get one profit share per article. Yes, we do have some bonuses for people who write certain high-value articles or who have proven themselves as quality writers (read this as “good information”). After you write 100 articles for us, you can enter the bonus program and apply to write our special projects that earn between 5 and 50 shares per article. Until then, you can choose from our preexisting article ideas here, claim actual titles provided by us or choose your own topics if they have keyword searches in the search engines (see below to learn how to check for that).

Just follow the instructions below to start selecting and submitting your articles. There is no application form before your first article. Just subscribe to the email list using the opt-in form on the right-side menu to get specific instructions. We will look at your first article to make sure your English writing skills are sufficient for this program. You will then receive instructions for submitting a PayPal address and other details if you are accepted.

Warnings and Profit-Sharing Qualifications

1. To make it fairer for active members of Writing Shares, we require you to write at least 30 articles within the first 90 days to qualify for lifetime profit sharing. This is necessary to prevent large numbers of people from writing one or two articles and then disappearing from the site. Do NOT think that this rule exists to screw anyone out of their profit shares. We WANT to pay you for life so you will be happy writing more articles for us and getting paid more money. But we need to set a minimum over a short period of time to keep lazy members from procrastinating. If you are not lazy, you don’t have to worry about this.

You have a full 90 days from the publication date of your first article to complete 29 more articles. This is necessary to make sure the profit sharing is fair for those serious about being a team player. We accept virtually ANY decent article that fits the keyword criteria, so this is the least we and the active members can expect from you.

2. After you qualify, you must write at least one article in a month to qualify for your profit sharing for that month. This is also necessary to avoid the situation of someone trying to qualify and then completely disappearing from the site. You will NEVER LOSE your profit shares once you earn them by writing at least 30 articles in that first 90 days. But you simply forfeit your earnings in any month where you do not submit even one article. This is the least that our active members have a right to demand if you want to earn a share in the profits in a given month.

Please be a native English speaker or at least have writing skills (spelling and grammar) equal to a native speaker.

You will not be paid unless you provide a PayPal account, and the ability to withdraw your funds is between you and PayPal. Writing Shares has nothing to do with PayPal policies.

Avoid excessive spelling and grammatical errors. Your articles don’t have to be spot-on perfect, but they must meet a general level of professionalism and competency. In extreme cases of incompetence, we reserve the right to suspend your article submissions. However, you will NEVER lose the shares you have already earned in the program.

Note that you will be banned for life and instantly forfeit all shares and earnings from shares if you plagiarize anything whatsoever. It is okay to base your article off of information found in other articles. But it must be in your own style. For example, if you find an article with 7 housecleaning tips, you can’t just reword it and write your own piece with those exact 7 tips. This is a form of stealing the entire “framework” of an article. Instead, you will need to use information from other articles and combine the information you learn into your own unique article.

The way to avoid trouble for plagiarism is simple and involves only three steps:

1. Put things in your own words. Never copy word for word except for short quotes. It is permissible to use the same primary information and keywords from another article or source, but the information needs to be presented in your own style and word choices.

2. When possible, use information from at least two sources. This allows your article to be unique and helps get good search-engine rankings. It is not absolutely required to have two sources. For example, if you have a direct government source for licensing or legal information, then that is good enough.

3. Always post the link from where you accessed information. This is not necessary for information clearly in the public domain (such as who won the last Super Bowl). It IS necessary for less common information, such as symptoms of a disease and other specialized information.

Good News and Bad News for Existing Writers

If you already have articles out there on the Internet, you may not use those exact articles. All articles submitted here must be exclusive and not used anywhere else. However, you may reword your own existing articles (you must reword both the title and the article text) and submit them here for publication and a lifetime share IF they otherwise follow the guidelines (if the article targets an appropriate keyword phrase in the title and content and has not already been written on here).

You must also include references where appropriate. For example, if you are talking about specifics of an MBA degree program taken from the university’s own website, you need to provide a link to the web page where you found that information. Remember that you need to provide good, factual content. So it is perfectly appropriate to rely on other sources to make a good SEO article. But just don’t ever copy from a source word for word.

Option 1: Selecting Your Own Article Topics

1. Compile article titles for articles that you want to write. Make sure the title has at least one keyword phrase that has at least 300 monthly searches (according to the Google AdWords external keyword tool).

If you don’t know how to use this tool, don’t worry. Just enter the main keyword for your article and click to get the global monthly search volume. As long as it is at least 300, then you can write an article around that keyword phrase.

Note: Simple words like “computer” are not really keyword phrases. You need to target a more specific keyword phrase. For example, in the title “How to Get Rid of Computer Bugs,” the keyword phrase “computer bugs” is the main keyword phrase. When I use the keyword tool to check this phrase, it has a global monthly search volume of 2400. Whenever you write an article, you need at least one keyword phrase like this in the title. SEO article titles are NOT the same as headlines in newspapers. They need to be specifically descriptive of the topic by including at least one (preferably two) keyword phrases. In other words, don’t use fancy or cute titles because you subjectively think they are funny or attention grabbing. Instead, you need descriptive titles that tell the search engines and the readers the topic of the article.

2. Enter the same keyword phrase into Google and make sure the number of competing web pages is 5 million or less. You see that number at the top of the page in the search results. In the case of our example of “computer bugs,” that number was 4,850,000 when I checked it. This is a fairly competitive phrase, but we would accept such an article if you submit the first one on that topic.

3. Now, assuming you have checked for search volume and competition, the last thing you should do is make sure no one else has already targeted that same keyword phrase in an article title here at Writing Shares. Just run a search using the search engine near the top of the page.

It is okay if an existing article merely mentions what you are talking about. For example, if you want to write an article on “neurologist jobs and salary,” you can write that even though a general article on “doctor salaries” exists. That is because the salary of neurologists is only a minor part of the article on salaries made by doctors. The key point is to avoid writing on a topic with a main keyword that has already been written on here at Writing Shares. We reserve the right to deny these duplicates but may still publish them if they have good and different content.

Important: Localization is very important in SEO. For some topics, there are both generic and localized keyword phrases. Let’s take the phrase “cosmetology license.” That is the generic keyword phrase. But there are 51 more articles that can be written on this subject: “Alabama cosmetology license,” “Texas cosmetology license” and so on. These are different keyword phrases, so you can write a localized article even if a generic article is already written here on Writing Shares.

In this case, let’s say someone wrote an article called “How to Get a Cosmetology License.” This is a generic article, so you may still write a different article called “How to Get an Alaska Cosmetology License.” That’s because the “Alaska” addition makes the main keyword different even though it has the generic words in common.

Caution: Please stay focused on the main topic when writing an article. Don’t go off on a tangent, and do not include irrelevant political statements and such like you see in comments online. This site is for professional SEO writers, not people who want to vent their anger by writing articles. There are many places to do that online if that’s what you want to do. You MAY write political articles, but avoid unnecessary name calling in the actual article. Reserve that for comments if you are prone to such online outbursts.

Option 2: Claim Titles In Our Blog

On this blog, under the category “Claim SEO Titles,” we post titles that we select. Many of the posts have multiple titles to claim. To claim these titles, you need to be the first writer to post a comment to claim the title. Use the following statement to claim a title:

I, (insert username here), claim the title “XXXX.”

Just put your Writing Shares username and the exact name of the title, as found in the post, in place of the “XXX.” Subscribe using the opt-in box (you can see the Email Aces graphic) to the right to get an alert in your email a few hours before we post new titles.

The Number 1 SEO Rule to Follow When Writing

To get credit, you must stay focused on the main topic. If your article title is “XYZ Spa in Dallas,” then include the keyword phrase “XYZ Spa” naturally within the text of the article content. This is how a search engine recognizes that your content is relevant. The article should also be around 400 words (it can be longer, but do not exceed 1500 words unless you absolutely can’t fit the information within that space). Yes, some small amount of background filler is appropriate for simple, short topics. This is because that filler has keywords that may get extra traffic.

For those new to online article writing, read these five SEO articles that have gotten actual traffic from search engines. Notice how there is a relevant introduction that gives general information about the main keyword. Do that first. You then focus in on the main topic and relevant subtopics. Never make anything up off of the top of your head unless it’s a very subjective topic. For example, you can use your own ideas if writing on ideas for holiday arts and crafts. But you can NEVER make up information if writing an objective article on how to fix a flat tire or anything that calls for specific instructions.

If an article idea passes the guidelines above (or you have successfully claimed a title), then you can write it and get a share of the profits for life. For now, note that we do not pay money up front like a few sites do. But you will get a lifetime share for every article that you submit, and you will get paid on it forever even if it stops getting traffic. This assumes you qualify by writing the 30 required articles in the first 90 days (see above for details).

This is unlike other profit-sharing sites that count only the profits from your own specific articles. That kind of compensation plan is often unfair because it’s usually not the writer’s fault when an article does not perform well in the search engines. What this means to you is that you don’t have to research the profitability of a keyword or topic or hope you get lucky. The money that comes in will be shared by all. Just pick keywords based on the three tests above and write (or claim titles that are preapproved and posted by us).

Tips: You can research topics over at eHow.com or AssociatedContent.com. Do NOT copy those articles, but you can get ideas for keyword topics at those sites. You then need to do more exhaustive research by searching under the main keyword in a search engine to get information from more than one site. Quality is important. We need quality articles that are preferably better than those sites. And the way you make your articles better is by using multiple sources.
