James Durbin Motown Week Top 11 For American Idol 10 (2011)

James Durbin is a rock singer who has advanced to the Top 11 for the 10th season of American Idol. This is Motown Week. So far, James is one of the favorites. He is the first person to ever sing Judas Priest or possibly any heavy metal song on Idol. This gives him a uniqueness angle that many contestants do not have, and his high notes are some of the best in the history of this show.

But Motown Week could still be a good fit for James if he makes the right song choice and gives it a good interpretation. For example, his audition performance of “A Change Is Gonna Come” showed his ability to take a song and make it relevant to his style.

Durbin should have no problem getting through to the Top 10 at this point. He is one of the more talented singers of the bunch and has not had a bad week yet in the live rounds.

However, during Hollywood Week, he showed a bit of a tendency to rely too heavily on the amazing wailing notes at the upper end of his vocal range. This is something he should be careful to avoid for Motown Week, as he will be a bit out of his comfort zone this time. At any rate, James should have no problem getting through at this point, as he is now a favorite to at least make the Top 5.
