Jacob Lusk is a singer from Compton, California. He has a background singing in the church and has made the Top 11 on the 10th season of American Idol. This is Motown Week, which sounds like this could be right up Jacob’s alley if he makes a smart song choice.
Up to this point, Lusk has been somewhat disappointing since the voting rounds began in the Top 24. He has gone from giving one of the greatest performances in Idol history in his Hollywood Week audition of “God Bless the Child” to giving generally out-of-tune and inconsistent performances of “I Believe I Can Fly” and “Alone.”
The “Alone” choice needed to be a showstopper, as he was going last (the pimp spot) and picking a song that was somewhat of a surprise choice (Jacob leans more towards soul or blues than pop rock). Unfortunately, it was so out of tune as to make it somewhat hard to get into the performance as a fan. Nonetheless, Jacob has huge lungs and power and at least kind of saved the performance with some big notes at the end.
Lusk could be in some trouble this week. While he has not been mentioned as bottom 3 yet, we know Idol has played tricks on that bottom-3 announcement before. This guy was in my top 2 (along with Casey Abrams) at the beginning of the Top 24. He has fallen a few spots to 4 or 5, and Motown Week seems like the perfect time for him to get it together and get back on track to make a run for the American Idol 10 championship.
