The 7th season of America’s Got Talent kicks off on May 14, 2012. The show starts at 8 Eastern. The show is terrible at informing the public of the actual schedule, so it is hard to say in advance exactly how the rounds will proceed. As the episodes are aired, I will post recaps of the action and the results of auditions, judges’ choices, and public voting when it begins.
America’s Got Talent 7 will have initial city auditions and then a Las Vegas audition round. Those who get through the city auditions receive plane tickets to Vegas for that round. The judges whittle the acts down until there are enough for four performance shows with public fan voting. The rules may change, but the typical method is to have the top 4 in voting automatically advance and let the judges pick the 4th contestant to advance from the next two in voting.
In the last two years, AGT has also had a YouTube audition round. The advantage to the YouTube round is that the winner of that round only has to do one performance to join the other contestants in the next round. On the other hand, YouTube auditioners have already had to get many votes online to be invited to the YouTube round. However, the producers can also pick some poor acts to make fun of like they do with the normal auditioners.
The show then whittles down to a quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. It is pointless to try to explain the exact format and number of contestants per round because they change it every year. I will post the relevant information here with recaps and results as they become available.
