American Idol 11′s Top 9 will sing the songs of their own personal music idols as the theme. This is a wide-open theme that presumably opens up the door for a vast range of song choices throughout the entire Rock Era. Of course, with an American Idol age limit below 30 and many teenagers in the competition, we probably won’t see many songs from the 50s or 60s as part of this Top 9 theme.
According to producer Nigel Lythgoe’s Tweets, we may see songs from Beyonce, Lifehouse, Led Zeppelin, Mariah Carey, Miranda Lambert and Chris Daughtry.
I’d bet money Colton Dixon will pick a Daughtry song if that is a real song choice. Of course, Skylar Laine would be the best guess for a Miranda Lambert song. Beyonce or Mariah Carey would likely be choices for Jessica Sanchez or Hollie Cavanagh.
Of the remaining contestants, Joshua and Heejun would be more likely to pick an older song in the soul category. Philip could do just about anything, and Elise has a versatile style that would allow for a wide range of song choices. DeAndre may also pick an older song choice that is in the soul category.
Of course, American Idol rarely gives spoilers on actual song choices, but I will update this post with any leaked song-choice spoilers for the Top 9.
