Jessica Sanchez is a Filipino Mexican American singer. At 16, she is the youngest contestant in the Top 3 of American Idol 11. She comes from the San Diego, CA area. Jessica’s fellow competition includes Philip Phillips and Joshua Ledet.
Looking at online betting odds, Philip is the consensus favorite to win in the finale next week. However, Joshua and Jessica have a lot of support and are not that far behind. Although the bettors can certainly be wrong, I am predicting that Philip and Joshua will make it. Jessica needs some excellent performances this week to send a message that she deserves her spot in the finale.
It is also possible that Joshua and Jessica will split votes because they are more similar than Philip. And with Philip having been popular all season, it is entirely possible that he has a place locked up in the finals. Occasionally, someone has his or her best week of the entire season in the Top 3. An example is Kris Allen. If Jessica can do that, she has a better shot of upsetting either Philip or Joshua for a spot in the finals.
Sanchez is singing three songs for the Top 3. This article details her performance of Jimmy Iovine’s song choice. She will also make one pick of her own, and the judges will make a pick. Jimmy picked the Jackson 5′s “I’ll Be There” for Jessica. This seems like a sabotage pick. It doesn’t have any grit to it at all, so that leaves out half of Jessica’s talent. And the rest is straightforward singing with no runs or other things to show vocal prowess. This would only be a good choice for someone with a phenomenal vocal tone, which Sanchez doesn’t have except in some of her soft high notes. Terrible song choice and boring performance.
