The Top 10 week of American Idol’s 11th season consists of the songs of Billy Joel. As much as I like Billy Joel (well, I’m not exactly crazy about him, either), he doesn’t seem to have many songs that are going to be good for vocals. Note that there is no public list of song choices yet, but I will release it here if it is leaked.
This may be a fun week cause Billy has some good stuff, but will it be a good week in terms of vocals? I doubt it, but it could be interesting to see who can up their game on the performance side. Even though Billy is known as a piano player, songs like “Uptown Girl” could offer the chance to move around the stage and show some stage presence and performance skills. But considering that Idol mainly focuses on vocals (there are NEVER backup dancers on American Idol, for example), then it’s hard to do much just moving around the stage.
People that should do well with this theme include Phillip Phillips, Colton Dixon and Elise Testone. If he picks the right song and sings it without going overboard, Joshua Ledet should also do well for this Top 10 Billy Joel week.
Jessica Sanchez needs a good week to bounce back to her usual form, but this theme probably doesn’t offer a whole lot for her. There are plenty of slow songs to choose from, but anyone who is not a musician is at a disadvantage to the guys like Phillip and Colton.
Heejun should just sing “New York State of Mind” again. He sang it in the last audition, and it was really good.
And anyone who chooses “We Didn’t Start The Fire” is either bold or insane. Either way, it would be fun to watch.
Who do you think should sing what on American Idol 11 Top 10 week? I found a website that lists 53 Billy Joel songs if you want to get up to speed on some of the possible song choices.
