The Voice 2 Top 24 iTunes Sales Rankings

Unlike American Idol and similar shows, The Voice gives one strong indicator of the popularity of the contestants - iTunes sales. Because iTunes sales actually count towards the voting, you can get a pretty good idea of which contestants have the best chance of making the finals.

Now that the show is in the Top 24, the iTunes rankings become crucial. On the first Top 24 show, we have Blake’s and Christina’s team members. On the next episode of 12, we will see Adam’s and Cee Lo’s contestants.

I will post rankings in the first hour after the two live shows and then check back in a few hours for more rankings. While this method is not foolproof in determining who is going to make the finals or win, it can be valuable when you see one or two contestants totally dominating the iTunes rankings.

I just saw Lindsey Pavao at #92. The others are not in the Top 100 at this time.

Checking in a few hours later, Lindsey is still way ahead of the pack:

34. Lindsey Pavao - Somebody That I Used to Know (Christina)

76. RaeLynn - Wake Up Call (Blake)

82. Charlotte Sometimes - Misery Business (Blake)

92. Chris Mann - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Christina)

93. What a Wonderful World - Jesse Campbell (Christina)

These kinds of numbers probably don’t mean much except with Lindsey, who is most likely leading the overall voting. RaeLynn being ahead of Jesse Campbell is disappointing.

About 12 hours after the show, here are the rankings:

23. Lindsey (Christina)
57. RaeLynn (Blake)
59. Charlotte (Blake)
75. Chris Mann (Christina)
78. Jesse Campbell (Christina)
93. Naia Kete has now made it with her “Turning Tables” performance. (Blake)
96. Jordis Unga has made it with her “Alone” performance. (Blake)

I have not seen the other 5 contestants in the Top 100. While these numbers may seem low, they do get higher as the weeks go by and we head towards a finale. In fact, Dia was #1 after the finale last year, and Javier was right there at #2.

Contestants that look to be in trouble in the voting include Moses Stone, Ashley De La Rosa and Sera Hill on Christina’s team. In Blake’s bunch, it may end up being very close between Naia and Jordis for that 3rd spot. One of them will miss the top 3, and the other two in trouble are Jermaine Paul and Erin Willett.

Update: After seeing the results, we find out that Jermaine Paul and Erin Willett made it, and Charlotte Sometimes didn’t even make the Top 3 on her team despite being Top 3 between both teams in iTunes rankings. This shows that iTunes sales are not going to tell us enough to make strong predictions unless someone is totally dominating like Lindsey did for the first week of the Top 24.

With the second episode of the Top 24 now complete, I will be posting any results for the first hour in about 50 minutes.

Early results show only Juliet Simms in the Top 100 of iTunes for the 2nd-week contestants. She is at #77 but will likely rise over the next few hours. A few of the other contestants will also likely join her in the Top 100.

One hour after the live show, Juliet is up to #64. No one else is in the Top 100 at this time.

It is now almost seven hours after the show, and it looks like a semi-disaster for this 2nd batch of The Voice contestants. Even now, I only see Juliet doing well on iTunes, and she is doing almost as well as Lindsey did last week. Simms is up to #31 now.

The problem is I see nobody else in the Top 100. There were 5 in the Top 100 at about this time last week. I’m not sure what the reason is, but part of it could be there was particularly weak competition last night overall, creating less show buzz. Add to that some absolutely deplorable song choices like “In Your Eyes” for Tony Lucca and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for Tony Vincent, and we may see bad iTunes sales results for this group. Yet, people seem to be loving Juliet, and Jamar had a great performance. Note that I love “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” but it would rarely be appropriate in a singing contest unless you totally changed it up to fit the format.

Another thing that thoroughly bugged me were all the scripted comments last night. Last week, almost no one got criticized except for one tiny critique per judge if that. This week, they poured on the criticism to try to make the judges look relevant or something. What a joke. You dissed decent performances from Pip and Kim Yarbrough just to play some kind of scripted game with the judges? End that now, producers.

I just saw Mathai’s “Ordinary People” slip into the Top 100 at #98. Juliet is up to #27.

Jamar Rogers just slipped in at #100 on the chart.

Close to 12 hours after the show, here are the rankings of those in the Top 100:

23. Juliet Simms “Roxanne”

93. Jamar Rogers “Are You Gonna Go My Way”

94. Mathai “Ordinary People”

100. James Massone “Don’t Know Why”

Update: Tony Lucca has now entered the Top 100 at #97. All others are close to the same, and Juliet has been at #21 for a while now.

I have seen Juliet Simms up to #20. She is still leading by a wide margin. Jamar and Mathai have jumped a little to 85 and 86, respectively. James is up to 93, and Tony Lucca is at 97.
