Jesse Campbell is a church singer who is competing on the 2nd season of The Voice. He has made it past the first round, which is a blind audition. Jesse is on Christina Aguilera’s team.
Next up is the Battle Round. The way this second audition round works is two singers from the same team are matched up against each other. So Jesse will perform against another member of his own team chosen by coach Christina Aguilera.
The main problem I see with Jesse is he will need to try to show more uniqueness in the next round. This is already hard to do because the coach picks the song choice, and you have no choice but to try to mold that into your own style. For this reason, I predict that Jesse Campbell will likely come in as an underdog for the Battle Round. Of course, depending on his opponent and the song choice, he could easily win, as well.
The Voice 2 Battle Round is set to begin in March. Check back here then to see the results of the Jesse’s battle.
Christina pitted Jesse against Anthony Evans. This is being touted on the show as the battle of the night, and it is the last battle of this episode. Teasers show a lot of big power notes.
These two are both church singers and similar in style, so there is probably no prohibitive favorite in this audition. They are singing Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You.”
Jesse is singing great, but he is trash talking, too. Lionel Richie is advising Jesse. Jewel advises Anthony Evans. They both sound better than most of the singers tonight.
This was easily the best battle of the night. Anthony hit the biggest glory note, but Jesse was technically proficient from beginning to end. If going for the high spots only, I’d pick Anthony. But if you judge every second of the performance, I’d pick Jesse Campbell.
Christina picks Jesse in this battle. He is not very likeable personality wise, but he has delivered the best battle-round performance so far.
