American Idol 11 has whittled itself down to 5 hopefuls for the championship, to be crowned in May. Philip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet, and Hollie Cavanagh are the contestants still vying for the title.
Philip and Jessica have been in the top 3 in betting odds the entire season. Skylar only entered the top 3 in odds last week. Joshua has been right around 4th to 6th the entire show, and Hollie has been a longshot for several weeks now. She has outlasted others with better odds a few times, but my prediction is Hollie has virtually no chance of winning.
Entering the Top 5, the consensus odds-on favorite is Philip Phillips, and coming in 2nd is Jessica Sanchez. Skylar is 3rd, Joshua is 4th, and Hollie is well behind in 5th. The actual odds differ depend on where you are betting, but the only real difference is that Skylar and Joshua are practically tied on some sites for 3rd.
The odds have been arguably bad at making predictions so far. Colton had risen to be the favorite to win and was then eliminated in 7th place. Jessica had also been the favorite and would have been eliminated in 7th place if not for the judges’ save.
At this point, I predict the end for Hollie in the top 5. She won’t be singing last again, and there are no more longshot contestants to get lower votes than her. Any of the contestants could conceivably go home (although Philip would be a shocker), but Hollie is definitely the one at the biggest risk of being eliminated in 5th place. As far as a winner, I would still go with Philip, and he will likely be my pick until he wins or is eliminated. Joshua is now my favorite, but I learned a long time ago Idol is about demographics and popularity with a smidgen of talent.
