The America’s Got Talent 7 Top 48 is the first live voting round of the season.
Eric Dittelman performed his mentalist trick live on July 24, 2012. He was part of the 4th group of 12 contestants in this season’s Top 48.
After the show, the YouTube video below will contain Eric’s Top 48 performance. Those videos are usually uploaded an hour or two after the show is over. So check back if you don’t see the Dittelman video when you first arrive here.
As far as I can remember, no mentalist has ever appeared in the voting rounds of America’s Got Talent. Plenty of magicians have performed, mostly failing by picking poorly conceived tricks or tricks that don’t work well for a 90-second contest performance.
Dittelman has both good and bad in his performance. The setup to his mentalism tricks has been kind of slow, so some people will get bored. But the payoff is excellent. And I would imagine he has the tricks set up so that he will rarely fail (although crazy things can happen on live TV). So while he may lose some votes to pacing, he will get a lot of votes for seemingly reading someone’s mind. This assumes he delivers a great trick like he did in both of his auditions.
Finally, this is the most competitive group of 12 acts for Season 7. There are so many good acts that you just expect some to fail to make it but then get a chance in the wildcard round. If Eric does not make it, he has a decent chance for a wildcard since all the magic and illusion acts have already been eliminated from the 2012 AGT competition.
