Act: Kid The Wiz
Genre: This breakdancer makes extensive use of a hat or cap in his dance routines. He balances the hat, catches it on his head, etc.
If you actually look at the dancing, it just isn’t that much better than even the Struck Boyz. I don’t think this is good enough. And he dropped the cap once, too.
America’s Got Talent has a quarterfinals this year with 60 acts instead of 48. So instead of a special week for YouTube acts, AGT has 5 quarterfinal weeks with 12 acts each.
The second week of this Top 60 aired on July 30, 2014. The results show is on July 31. Only 4 acts will make it to the semifinals. 3 go through strictly on the public vote. Among the 4th and 5th acts in voting, a majority vote by the judges will send one through. But if it’s deadlocked, it goes back to the public vote, and the 4th place vote getter advances. Below, you can see my pre-show ranking of all 12 acts in Week 2. You can also see a list of the full Top 60 for AGT 8 by clicking the link below.
Kid The Wiz is a solo dancer (B-boy) who also balances a hat and does other tricks with it while dancing. He performed during this second quarterfinals week. I will include a link to the YouTube video for Kid The Wiz’s Top 60 performance as soon as it is added to the show’s official channel.
Judges’ Comments On Kid The Wiz’s Performance:
Howie says he didn’t step it up to the next level. Howard said he could go far in the business but doesn’t know if he will win this. Heidi says Kid The Wiz did amp up his game. And kids think it is cool. Mel B says teenagers need to vote for him.
Predictions Before Performances Air:
From what I have seen, this is a decent breakdancer with a hat gimmick. And I think there is a good chance the voters will see Kid The Wiz the same way. As a dancer, the first thing you really need on AGT is either good choreography or fantastic dancing skills. I haven’t seen either one of those qualities from Kid The Wiz. The hat doesn’t really make for good choreography. It still comes across as a B-boy exhibition of a dancer with perhaps better-than-average skills. And because Kid The Wiz is taking a back seat to Kenichi Eniba this year, he is not a big producer favorite, either. Unless he improves dramatically or has good editing from the producers, I don’t think this guy has much of a chance of making it past the Top 60 quarterfinals.
Here are the 12 Week 2 acts for the Top 60. These are my pre-show rankings, and I expect some changes after we see the performances. With 60 acts, it’s not easy to spot all of the producers’ favorites.
