Act: Marty Brown
Genre: Country Singer
Marty sang “When You Say Nothing At All.” This has been a hit for various artists, including Keith Whitley, Alison Krauss, and Ronan Keating. This guy has a great vocal tone. There’s no doubt about that. But the audition clip was very short. The other contestants said Marty makes them like country music.
This article is for the audition episode of July 17, 2013. This was the second of two Las Vegas audition shows of Season 8. Some acts auditioned once in Vegas and made it through to the live rounds. A few of the acts automatically advanced with no Vegas audition. Some of the better acts were sent home immediately with no chance to audition at this stage.
I will include a link to the YouTube video for Marty Brown’s Las Vegas audition performance whenever it has been added.
New judges for Season 8 include Heidi Klum and Mel B. Howard Stern and Howie Mandel have returned to the judging panel. Nick Cannon is still the host of the show.
Judges’ Comments On Marty’s Performance:
Howard thought that he took a step back from his first audition. But Howie and Mel B were commenting about how great that first audition was.
Brown has a very good chance to go deep in this competition. He is like Kevin Skinner, who won. But I think Marty is a better singer. That does not mean he will win. But a finalist spot would not be surprising at all.
Note: Yes, Marty did make it through to the live voting rounds.
Recap of City Auditions for America’s Got Talent 8:
Week 1 of Season 8 (June 4) featured, among others, Anna Christine, Marty Brown, Hype, and Catapult. Some of the possible favorites from week 2 included Collins Key, Paul Thomas Mitchell, Jonathan Allen, and Mariachi Nuevo Estillo AVM. Week 3 featured dancer Kenichi Ebina and Chinese female acrobat, Rong Niu.
In Week 4, the act that at least got the most buzz online was Aaralyn and Izzie. Their YouTube has already gotten over 10 million views. However, I am not so sure that will translate to being a favorite, as the little girl’s screaming rock style is not a popular genre. Forte, a male opera trio, also had a great audition.
In Week 5, some of the acts that appear to be possible favorites include Branden James, Kelsey and Bailey (dancing dog), and rock band American Hitmen.
In the 6th and final week of city auditions, standouts who could become favorites include Milton Patton, Timber Brown, Chloe Channell, Jimmy Rose, and 212 Green.
All things considered, it looks to be a year for singers to dominate overall again. That doesn’t mean a singer will definitely win. But unless they start cutting favorites left and right in Las Vegas, you’re going to have a lot of singers make the semifinals and probably finals, too. For whatever reason, most of the acts with buzz for Season 8 so far are the singers. But things sometimes change dramatically in Vegas, when they start eliminating talented acts, often apparently for ratings purposes.
