CNN Crime News Video: Long Beach, California And Chicago, Illinois: Thieves Using Mysterious High-Tech Box To Unlock Car Doors In Seconds

The following CNN crime news video is about new technology that some thieves have gotten their hands on, that allows them to unlock car doors in a matter of about two seconds. You can see a couple of these thieves using this new technology in the clip linked to below. Worse yet, it is nothing but a small box-shaped object that is light and held in one hand. And it apparently also uses some kind of electronics to disable car alarms, as well. Someone walking by would probably not even know that it is a thief getting into the vehicle.

This surveillance footage was captured in Long Beach, California. There is also some footage from Chicago, Illinois. The CNN story was added to the CNN website on June 21, 2013. It aired on the New Day TV show.

This thief technology is particularly troubling because even the car manufacturers do not know what it is. And not knowing what it is or how it works, the car makers can’t come up with a countermeasure to block the device from unlocking the doors.

Victim Steven Doi, from Corona, California, had $3000 of goods stolen from his car. He did catch the thief with his car’s surveillance camera. It was not clear from this report whether the criminal who stole from Doi has been arrested.

Mike Bender is a former law enforcement officer who now works with ICW Group Insurance Company. He says he does not know what this device is, and cops don’t know, either.

Electronics make cars more convenient and comfortable. But the bad part is that this makes them subject to being hacked. And that is what this mysterious device is doing.

Police now have what they think may be one of these devices. It was recovered somewhere in Texas. Presumably, they are reverse engineering it now to try to determine what it is doing to unlock these car doors.

Long Beach, California Crime News: Christopher Allen Taylor Shot And Killed In Police Shootout After Allegedly Stealing Car

PressTelegram.com reports that a suspect was shot and killed by police in East Long Beach, California. The incident occurred after the suspect allegedly stole a car and then engaged the cops in a shootout.

Where:

The incident ended in the 6400 block of Keynote Street. That is where the suspect crashed his car into a house before allegedly shooting at police to try to escape.

Before that, the suspect allegedly stole a car from the 1600 block of Morgan Lane, in Redondo Beach. He then led the California Highway Patrol on a freeway chase. That included the 405 freeway.

When:

Thursday, February 21, 2013, at about 1 in the morning

Suspect:

Christopher Allen Taylor was 19 years old. The report did not state where he lived.

Motive:

It seems that this was all about stealing a car in the beginning, and then shooting at the cops to try to get away with the initial crime.

Justified Shooting:

If Taylor was shooting at the police, then it’s typically going to be easy to conclude that they were justified in shooting in self-defense.
