Live Blog For The America’s Got Talent 7 San Francisco Audition Episode of May 15, 2012

The 7th season of America’s Got Talent premieres on May 14, 2012. The show welcomes new judge Howard Stern. Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel are returning to the judging booth, and Nick Cannon is hosting again.

This is a live blog for the 2nd episode of AGT 7, which is on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. This episode is for the San Francisco auditions. I’ll be including information about the contestants, such as standout performances and who made it through to the next round of auditions, which take place in Las Vegas.

Expect a lot of shenanigans in a city-audition episode like this. Lots of crazy acts will get buzzed by the judges, but lots of crazy acts will also make it through to Las Vegas for shock value.

Live Blog For the Premiere of America’s Got Talent 7 For Monday, May 14, 2012 (Los Angeles and St. Louis)

The 7th season of America’s Got Talent (AGT) kicks off on Monday, May 14, 2012. This audition episode starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time and is scheduled for two hours.

According to TV Guide, the premiere episode on the 14th will contain auditions from Los Angeles, CA and St. Louis, MO.

Nick Cannon is back to host, but there is a new sheriff at the judges’ table. Howard Stern is taking the place of Piers Morgan. Sharon Osbourne has mentioned quitting before but is back for Season 7. Howie Mandel is also back for his third season on AGT.

I’ll be live blogging the crazy action here once the show starts on Monday. Expect a lot of lame auditions with buzzing and some lame auditions that go straight through as a joke. The talent didn’t blow me away last year, so hopefully we find some of that, too.

Live Show:

The show is starting out in Los Angeles. They show a preview of some contestants and a guy doing a human-cannonball act.

They are pimping Howard Stern hard to start the show. He says he is going to be tough as a judge.

The first guy is a magician. He is Aoni Jackson and 34 years old. Howie comes up and gives him his wedding ring. The guy gets buzzed cause it wasn’t even a magic trick. He suddenly becomes a half stripper. He does not make it.

Oh, no. We have another Bird Lady. This woman has 22 birds, and this is their first performance. Bird Lady actually sings and is pretty good. But the birds are just a distraction. Howard buzzed it. Howie says he likes it. Howie votes YES. Howard votes NO. Sharon says NO.

A weird singer comes out and does “Proud Mary.” He gets buzzed. Several other singers come out and perform and get buzzed.

William Close (42). He’s with Sarah, his fiancee, who is 5 months pregnant. William plays the earth harp. This harp is huge, and he made it. It goes all the way up to the balcony. Howard doubts he makes money. He plays it, and it sounds closer to a violin than a harp. It sounds quite nice, and it is certainly unique. Close gets three big YESES and a standing ovation from the judges.

The vibe is a bit different with the judges this year. They keep showing them talking between acts and discussing things like friends instead of the forced animosity from years past.

A girl dance act is up next. They are Elements Dance Crew and do clogging. This is the exact type of act that is always overrated on America’s Got Talent. Yeah, they were good. But it’s nothing special. And the one solo was weak and barely pulled off a decent flip. To no one’s surprise, they get three YESES and go to the Las Vegas round.

All Wheel Sports is an act that makes it, but the edit was really fast. There are stunt bikers, trampoline artists, and a bunch of other stuff. They make it.

Amazing Elizabeth is a young girl that does an aerial act. She makes it.

Chris LeVar raps about the judges. It was decent rapping but was really cool because of the words, which were funny. He got 3 YESES.

Jorge and Alexa Narvaez (father and daughter). Dad (25) plays the guitar okay. The kid (7) is a good singer for her age. Overall, it’s the type of act that can do pretty well if they get to the live shows. The kid is kind of comedian, too. She is hilarious. They got three YESES and are going to Vegas.

Nick Cannon says the preview of The Amazing Spider-Man is coming up.

St. Louis Auditions

The second hour of this episode consists of the St. Louis city auditions. The judges apparently get stuck in an elevator for a while with Howie’s mom.

Ben Blaque is 32 years old. He does a crossbow act. He has pretty much pinpoint accuracy, but this just isn’t that impressive because this fancy crossbow even has a telescope on it for aiming. All three judges vote YES.

Light Wire Theater blacklight act: Well, if Team iLuminate could not win last year, it’s going to be hard for this one to win. But it was a good act and has the potential of being better than Team iLuminate. They get three YESES.

Some guy comes out and puts a scorpion in his mouth and goes to Vegas. A guy who looks like a funny ventriloquist with a dog puppet performs. They didn’t even say his name, but he made it to Vegas. I wanted to see more of him cause it looks like he could be good.

Stick and Move Dance Crew. This was really fast, but the judges said they loved it.

Sanjula Vamana (35) is from Chicago. His wife Red Rum is part of the act. He puts needles through his cheeks. All 3 judges buzz him.

A bunch of guys play the kazoo and get buzzed. Stormin Norman does some ridiculous act with a pumpkin and gets buzzed.

Loyalty Dance Crew is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They are pretty sharp but are depending more on the choreography than talent to get through. These guys have speed, but they don’t do anything beyond that. The judges give them three YESES. This is so predictable. They cannot win.

Simply Sergio (47) is up next. His wife is his No. 1 fan. How shocking! His singing is really bad. He is getting buzzed by the judges. Nick is dancing with his wife. He then sings “God Bless America.” It is better than the first performance. The judges are rethinking now. Howard hugs him. He got three YESES.

Maurice and Shanice Hayes (62 and 18) are a father and daughter vocal duo. They sing “You’ve Got a Friend.” This gets a standing ovation. It reminds me of Christina and Ali from a couple of years ago, but they are a little better overall.

This is the end of the Los Angeles and St. Louis audition episode for America’s Got Talent 7.

America’s Got Talent 7 Recaps and Results

The 7th season of America’s Got Talent kicks off on May 14, 2012. The show starts at 8 Eastern. The show is terrible at informing the public of the actual schedule, so it is hard to say in advance exactly how the rounds will proceed. As the episodes are aired, I will post recaps of the action and the results of auditions, judges’ choices, and public voting when it begins.

America’s Got Talent 7 will have initial city auditions and then a Las Vegas audition round. Those who get through the city auditions receive plane tickets to Vegas for that round. The judges whittle the acts down until there are enough for four performance shows with public fan voting. The rules may change, but the typical method is to have the top 4 in voting automatically advance and let the judges pick the 4th contestant to advance from the next two in voting.

In the last two years, AGT has also had a YouTube audition round. The advantage to the YouTube round is that the winner of that round only has to do one performance to join the other contestants in the next round. On the other hand, YouTube auditioners have already had to get many votes online to be invited to the YouTube round. However, the producers can also pick some poor acts to make fun of like they do with the normal auditioners.

The show then whittles down to a quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. It is pointless to try to explain the exact format and number of contestants per round because they change it every year. I will post the relevant information here with recaps and results as they become available.

America’s Got Talent 7 Schedule and Preview

After the end of America’s Got Talent Season 7 and the Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. win, the biggest news story is that Howard Stern is coming on as a judge to replace Piers Morgan.

Joining Stern will be returning judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel. Nick Cannon is also coming back as the host.

The 7th season of America’s Got Talent has already been holding auditions, and the show is scheduled to start on May 14, 2012. The start time is 8 Eastern, and AGT is broadcast on NBC.

Preview:

There has been a lot of talk about Howard Stern being a judge. Principally, he is known for a lot of sex talk on his own radio show, which was on regular radio for years and is now on satellite radio. This is much ado about nothing, as Stern will be forced to rein it in and keep the sexual innuendos to a minimum. He is not a total idiot. Stern knows who the audience is and will keep it in check for the most part.

Other than that, expect a singer to win Season 7 yet again. They always do. The show tried to minimize the chances of a winning singer last year, but the public still didn’t bite, choosing to pick the excellent but karaoke-like jazz crooner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.

NBC has always been terrible about releasing the full schedule of America’s Got Talent. I will update this article with details if I can find more information about the Season 7 schedule. For now, we know that the show premieres on May 14, 2012.

List of America’s Got Talent Winners

America’s Got Talent is a TV variety show that is produced in the form of a talent contest. Although many types of acts perform – including singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, acrobats, daredevils, jugglers, blacklight acts and other miscellaneous acts – singers have always won the show. This is presumably due to the emotion that a singer can convey with his or her voice, which is something that moves people to vote.

Like many talent contest with national public voting, the winners’ list is also dominated by men. The only female to win America’s Got Talent was an 11-year-old girl (Bianca Ryan won in Season 1). I have my own theories for why this is so, but I’ll leave them to myself for now.

Note that Terry Fator is a ventriloquist and impressionist who also sings. He is not a pure singing act but definitely has a good voice.

America’s Got Talent Winners:

Season 1: Bianca Ryan

Season 2: Terry Fator

Season 3: Neal Boyd, Jr.

Season 4: Kevin Skinner

Season 5: Michael Grimm

Season 6: Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.

Season 7. Olate Dogs

In my opinion, Landau and Kevin were the biggest shocks as winners. I predicted Neal and Michael and Bianca. I did not make a prediction for Season 2 until the finale, where I did pick Terry Fator. Kevin just didn’t perform that well, but only Barbara Padilla really shined among the other contestants. For the first time in Season 6, I picked a non-singing act to win in Team iLuminate. I am still surprised they did not win, but America went with another singer, which I do not have a problem with. But I felt Team iLuminate’s combination of technology with high-level dancing talent was enough to get a championship.

Bianca appeared to be the producer’s Chosen One in Season 1. She just didn’t really have any competition that was going to be favored to beat her.

Cas Haley was good competition for Terry Fator, but Terry is simply a world-class entertainer, while Cas is an above-average singer.

Nuttin But Strings appeared to be the producer’s favorite in Season 3. I had Neal picked all the way. Nuttin But Strings finished third.

Michael Grimm beat out Jackie Evancho for the title. The latter finished second. Jackie was great for her age and is doing much better in the real world than Michael. But I always had Michael from the beginning because he has the type of soulful voice with emotional performances that wins these shows.

In Season 7, we finally had an act that had nothing at all to do with singing. Olate Dogs was also the first animal act to win AGT. Tim Hockenberry was my original pick. He didn’t even make the finals.
