Philip Phillips was crowned the winner of American Idol 11 on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. During the season, Idol has a deal with iTunes not to rank the songs on the iTunes sales charts. This is presumably to avoid unfairly affecting the vote.
But now that the season is over, the American Idol performances are appearing on the iTunes charts. And Philip Phillips is totally dominating compared to the other contestants. Sure, some of this is because he just won. But it’s such a drubbing that it’s kind of embarrassing. Usually, the 2nd-place finisher at least has a performance or two in the iTunes top 100. But only Philip is there at the moment. And he is there a full 6 times.
At the time of writing (a day after the finale results), here are Philip’s rankings for the songs in the Top 100:
1. Home
30. We’ve Got Tonight
33. Stand By Me
41. Volcano
54. Moving Out
72. Beggin
Jessica Sanchez fans can’t buy her songs off iTunes. Album won’t work and songs, “the item you tried to buy is not available”, yet I was able to successfully buy and download Colton Dixon, John Legend and Beyonce songs. The problem seems to be only with Jessica’s songs.
