NBC Today Show Dog Video: Labradoodle, Charles The Monarch, With Unique Grooming Confused As Lion In Norfolk, Virginia (January 9, 2013)

The following Today show video is about a Labradoodle dog (part poodle and part Labrador retriever) that was confused as a lion in Norfolk, Virginia. The dog’s name is Charles The Monarch. The owner is Daniel Painter, who owns a local business, Daniel’s Lawn And Garden Center. This animal video is from the January 9, 2013 edition of the Today show.

The dog in question was actually groomed to look like a lion. But the 3-year-old puppy doesn’t look that much like a lion. And its body size and lack of muscle should have been a clue that it definitely was not a lion. At any rate, at least one person apparently called 911 to report that a lion was running loose on the streets of Norfolk.

Charles The Monarch was groomed to look like Big Blue, Old Dominion’s mascot.

Video of the lion-like Labradoodle dog was provided by Stephen M. Katz and The Virginian-Pilot.
