Live Blog For The Voice 2 Finale Results Show on May 8, 2012 ; Jermaine Paul Wins

The Voice 2 is wrapping up its season tonight with the announcement of its 2nd winner. The finalists who competed on Monday’s finale performance show were Tony Lucca, Juliet Simms, Jermaine Paul, and Chris Mann.

I was tracking iTunes throughout the day, and Tony won this finale round. He peaked at #2 from when I was watching. I saw Juliet peaking at #9. Chris and Jermaine were also close and sitting at #12 and #13 at some point.

I think these iTunes numbers are close enough that Tony is not assured of winning. He has been my pick from the very beginning, and I picked Javier last year. But the show has certainly done a lot more to try to set up a win for Juliet, including having her go last in the singing order last night. It’s pretty obvious here what has been going on. They get rid of Jesse Campbell and some of the other strong competition.

On the other hand, they certainly could have gotten rid of Tony Lucca if they wanted to almost guarantee a Juliet win. I guess they felt it would be too melodramatic if they got rid of all of her competition. So they left Tony in there as a possible spoiler.

I’ll be live blogging the action, starting at 9 Eastern time. In addition to the finale results, we will see a group performance with all the coaches and guest performances from Justin Bieber (“Boyfriend”), Flo Rida, Lady Antebellum, and Hall and Oates (“Rich Girl”).

Live Blog:

They start with  a general recap of the performances. The contestants sang a solo choice, a song by their coach, and a duet with their coach.

Carson said one song got #1 on iTunes on R&B and #1 and #2 on the iTunes rock chart. Tony got the highest (#2) on the main iTunes singles chart. All four made the Top 20.

Jermaine Paul is singing The Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back” with Jamar Rogers, James Massone, and Pip. Even James sang well on this one. Maybe he just made bad song choices before. As usual, Jermaine is grossly oversinging to the point of losing control. But he is so good when he just sings instead of going crazy.

Christina Milian is backstage talking to the boys who just sang. He said they were his favorites that did not make the finale.

Flo Rida is doing a medley of “Whistle” and “Wild Ones” with Juliet Simms.

Chris Mann is singing “Bittersweet Symphony” with Lindsey Pavao and Katrina Parker. He said Lindsey has one of the most unique voices he has ever heard, and he said he thought Katrina was good enough to win the whole show. This was another great performance. I thought Chris could have won if he picked more songs like this. He is more versatile than just opera. But Chris still has a chance if he got a lot of phone votes last night.

Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones” album is supposed to come out July 3rd.

There is a joke segment about the bromance between Adam and Blake. Blake kids that Adam has a crush on him.

Hall and Oates sing “Rich Girl” with Chris Mann, Jermaine Paul, and Tony Lucca. Daryl Hall is still pretty good as a live singer. He really brings out the emotion of the song.

Neia, Sera, Kim, and Cheesa sing Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” These are all contestants who made the voting rounds and were cut before the finals.

They had the Parks and Recreation cast do a spoof of The Voice.

Juliet Simms is singing “With a Little Help From My Friends” with Erin, RaeLynn, and Jamar. By the way, Jamar dominated this performance. Juliet’s voice seems to be giving out at times, but she pretty much held it together last night when they said she was sick.

Christina Milian is backstage with the contestants who just sang. It’s a love fest for Juliet. They seem to really want her to win.

Now, they do a segment on Cee Lo and that cat, Purrfect.

Lady Antebellum comes out and sings “Wanted You More.”

Tony Lucca is singing “Go Your Own Way” with Jordis Unga. He said he thought she would go very far in the contest and wanted her to have another chance to shine. Jordis sounds flat in the beginning but gets in some good power notes towards the end. Tony doesn’t have the most powerful voice, but he sounds good.

Christina Milian is doing another interview with eliminated contestants. And they show the guys and girls getting some kind of rock-star treatment. The finalists all get a Kia car as a surprise.

Justin Bieber is coming out to sing the world premiere TV performance of “Boyfriend.” Well, at least he’s better than Rebecca Black. Not that that’s saying anything. His new album is coming out on June 19th.

The results are coming up after a last interview with Christina backstage.

Jermaine Paul is the winner of The Voice 2. Juliet finished 2nd, Tony finished 3rd, and Chris finished 4th.
