Update: Jennifer and J Rome sang “You’re The One That I Want.”
Maybe I just have a personal bias against J Rome’s voice, but I had him dead last in the first week of the Top 8 of Duets. The premiere epiosode was last week. If uniqueness is anything, this guy shouldn’t even be in the competition. He has about the most standard, non-descript R&B voice you could find. And when I looked for anything else in his performance (and his YouTube performances from before), I heard nothing in the way of style that would sway me away from his lack of uniqueness. Nonetheless, I am just a guy watching a show, and J Rome and his celebrity partner Jennifer Nettles were ranked first on the night.
We are now entering the 2nd week of the Top 8, which is apparently not the general rule on Duets. But the show decided to let everyone survive the first week so they could sing in Week 2 of the Top 8. The Top 8, Week 2 episode is on May 31, 2012. Obviously, J Rome is in the best position here to survive the Top 8 and move on to next week. It would take a complete disaster to fall from first to last when the scores are combined. That is just not going to happen unless the show is playing tricks with the judges’ scores.
Quddus claims that J Rome is the most polished contestant. What is he talking about? This is another overrated performance from J Rome. It was okay, but there was nothing special about it. He does nothing to make the songs unique. His voice cracked a few times, and the judges just ignore it. Unbelievable. Now Robin is saying he can win.
