The following sports video is from ESPN. It gives a swimming update on the 2012 London Summer Olympics swimming. On July 28, 2012, USA swimmers Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps both made the final of the men’s 4 X 100 meter individual medley.
This is the year that many people have been thinking Lochte will finally overcome Michael Phelps as the best swimmer in the world. Based on the results of this 4 X 100 medley, he is off to a good start. Lochte easily beat the field to capture the gold medal. Meanwhile, Phelps fell way back and finished in 4th place.
Thiago Pereira (Brazil) won the silver medal, and Kosuke Hagino set an Asian record when taking the bronze medal.
Phelps still has a chance to surpass the most ever medals won by an individual in Olympic history. With 6 more races to go, he needs two medals to tie and 3 medals to break the all-time record. Meanwhile, Lochte has his first gold of London 2012 and may be on course to assume the role of best swimmer in the world.
