On the 3rd week of the first season of Duets, the show finally got around to eliminating the first person. The episode aired on June 7, 2012. The bottom 2 of Alexis Foster and Jason Farol competed in a sing-off to see which one would be eliminated.
This is the first sing-off in the history of Duets. It is an a cappella performance.
Alexis sang “Natural Woman.” This is a good a cappella performance, but it doesn’t seem as emotional as Jason’s. It was wooden and lacked natural phrasing in spots. I don’t believe either of these two should have been in the bottom 2. But having gotten here, Alexis did not impress me that much.
Jason sang “Me and Mrs. Jones.” This was a pretty performance, but his voice lost control in a couple of spots. He goes a bit shrill in the power notes.
I’d have to give this one to Jason by a little bit. Alexis’s phrasing was a bit off.
The judges’ scoring was secret.
In the end, Alexis was the first contestant to ever be eliminated on the Duets TV singing contest. Jason survives and moves on to the Top 7.
