Duets Top 7 Sing-Off : Olivia Chisholm vs. Meleana Brown (Meleana Eliminated)

In the Top 7 week of the premiere season of Duets, Olivia Chisholm and Meleana Brown hit the bottom 2 in the judges’ scoring. This put them into a sing-off. The thing I like about the sing-off is it is all about the vocals. Duets sing-offs are a cappella performances. There is no hiding behind a band or trying to come up with some unique arrangement to cover poor vocals. You either shine with your vocals or risk going home.

Last week, Jason Farol went against Alexis Foster, with Alexis being eliminated and sent home.

Here were the song choices for the Top 7 bottom 2:

Olivia Chisholm sang “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” As with Meleana, she has a pretty voice. But it’s even weaker than Meleana’s and sounds like it’s quivering out of control.

Meleana Brown sang “Saving All My Love For You.” She has a pretty voice, but there isn’t quite enough power here for this song. And her phrasing was a bit off.

My Thoughts:

I didn’t really like either one of these a cappella solos. I could see it going either way. It’s almost impossible to pick. I didn’t expect this, but I would pick Olivia Chisholm to win this sing-off by a hair’s breath.

Results:

The judges gave the win to Olivia in the Duets Top 7 sing-off. Meleana was eliminated from the competition.
