CNN Weather News Video: August 22, 2012 Update On California’s Ponderosa Wildfire; 35 Square Miles, 50 Buildings Burned, and 3000 Evacuated

The following CNN weather news video is an August 22, 2012 update to the Ponderosa wildfire, which is burning in Shasta and Tehama Counties (Northern California). Three of the towns most directly threatened by the fire have been Manton, Shingletown, and Viola. The video was added to the CNN website on August 22, 2012.

You can see some footage of the Ponderosa blaze in the video below. It is hard to fight this wildfire because the weather is hot, dry, and windy.

Gwen Olson is one of the evacuees. She says nature is sometimes very evil.

Neda Iranpour is on scene in Manton, California, showing how firefighters are spraying orange fire retardant on homes to try to keep them from burning in the event the fire approaches.

At the time of this video, the Ponderosa wildfire has grown to 35 square miles and has destroyed 50 buildings. Planes are dropping water from up above in an attempt to contain this natural disaster. About 3000 people evacuated.
