The following CNN sports news video is about the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games and the US women’s football (soccer) team. It was added to the CNN video archives on August 10, 2012.
After a controversial win against Canada, the US women have avenged their loss to Japan in the last women’s World Cup. Team USA captured the gold medal by beating Japan, 2-1.
In the video below, you can see an interview with US women’s soccer team members Heather O’Reilly and Megan Rapinoe.
Heather O’Reilly says winning the gold is something that they are really proud of. And she hopes they made at least a small impact on the game that will last forever. Heather also said it was amazing to see some 80,000 people show up at Wembley Stadium to watch the game.
Megan Rapinoe was asked about her best moment in winning Olympic gold. She loved the crowd and the fact that it seemed like everyone stayed to see the medal ceremony, which took a while to get started after the game.
They were then asked about the semifinal game with Canada. Heather said it was one of the wildest soccer games she ever played. Megan probably had the game of her life and scored the goal of her life to help win that for the US women’s team.
