CNN Sports News Video: Another London 2012 Olympics Scandal: 8 Female Badminton Players Disqualified For Fixing Matches

The following is a CNN sports news video about a badminton scandal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. It was uploaded to the CNN website on August 1, 2012.

In the badminton tournament, female players from China, South Korea, and Indonesia have been disqualified and booted from the competition for alleged game fixing.

The teams had already qualified for the quarterfinals but had different ideas about whom they wanted to play in the brackets. For example, China didn’t want to have to play another Chinese team. And the South Korean and Indonesian teams allegedly had an interest in fixing the bracket to suit their own needs.

The badminton federation apparently could tell from watching the games that the girls were not trying to win. It’s not so easy to fix a game, and these girls are obviously not good at getting away with it.

Despite that, Indonesia and South Korea are apparently appealing the decision. And China is reportedly doing an investigation. You have to figure the Chinese are probably guilty as sin if they have not launched an appeal.
