Danny Kim started a tech company in the San Francisco area with the purpose of creating a new type of vehicle. The business is Lit Motors. He has succeeded in creating a self-balancing electric motorcycle, which the company is calling the C-1. You can see the prototype of this motorcycle in the video below. It uses two gyroscopes to balance itself on two wheels.
This vehicle looks cool, and it is supposed to drive a lot faster than that marginally useful Segway machine. It is supposed to travel at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
One problem outlined by this report is price. The goal is to introduce this self-balancing motorcycle to the market in two years. But the starting price is tentatively set at $24,000. This seems exorbitant for something that really is not that revolutionary. Like the Segway, the balancing aspect is really more of a gimmick than anything else. A motorcycle doesn’t need to self-balance for most riders. Those with disabilities or health problems may enjoy this feature. But for the average person, $24,000 is just too much when you consider the limited space for carrying items.
