The following CNN news video is about Alaskan drilling. Shell has a plan to drill two underwater holes to confirm the existence of a huge amount of oil in the ocean. Point Hope, Alaska is one of the towns that could be affected by this oil drilling. This video was uploaded to CNN on July 13, 2012.
Some residents of Point Hope and other affected areas are afraid of damage to the fish as a result of the oil exploration. Local people also live off of or create products made from other sea life, such as whales, walruses, and seals.
In the end, don’t we know who is going to win here? Of course, Shell and big corporations are likely to win. That undersea oil field near Point Hope, Alaska is thought be big enough to supply as much as 10 percent of America’s energy needs all by itself.
Besides that, these Eskimos are killing seals and other marine life. They hardly have a huge moral ground to stand on here.
Wow. Really moral ground? This is the longest continually inhabited place in North America. They have for longer than we can imagine participated in substainable fishing including a couple of whales a year. This is their only food source and you want to talk morals? They can’t grow gardens and bringing in food costs are prohibitive. If you look back at records you will find that they fit the definition of borderline starving because they only take what they need (with reverence) and no more. You are self righteous.
Actually, no. They are the ones who are acting self-righteous. Grow up and join the rest of the world. People don’t hunt whales anymore except a few countries. If everyone had their attitude (kill two a year only), then there would be no whales left, genius.
LOL at complaining about possible harm to marine life when your reason is you want to kill that very life. Hate to break it to you, but that’s not their property. They have no rights. But if they do have a problem with food, it’s America. I’m quite sure they won’t be starving to death. They will be taken care of if disaster strikes. You realize nobody starves to death in America, right?
