In the following CNN news and politics video, you can see Michigan State Representative Lisa Brown referring to her own “vagina” in comments from the House floor. Brown is a Democrat and comes from West Bloomfield.
Lisa used the word in reference to comments about an anti-abortion bill. She was banned from speaking on the subject for using that word.
Brown also appears on this video and gives an interview with a local TV station. The original source is WDIV, and CNN added this video on June 15, 2012.
This is just a case of Michigan House Republicans trying to silence Democratic detractors. The comment was rather crude, but the claim that it lacked maturity and civility is way over the top. It’s not a curse word and was relevant to the bill at hand. Speaker of The House Jase Bolger, who made this comment trying to justify the ban, is thoroughly unconvincing. This is an abortion bill being debated, not a taping of Sesame Street.
With that said, Lisa Brown’s comment sounded like a comment from a person in 8th-grade debating class. She should stop trying to act witty and just state the proper arguments.
