CNN News Video: Interview With Zubeidat Tsarnaev, Mother Of Boston Marathon Bombing Suspects, Tamerlan And Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

As word comes that 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is a suspect in the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, CNN has been interviewing friends and family of this suspect. Tsarnaev went to high school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and he is apparently an enrolled student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

There is a strong feeling of shock in all of the people being interviewed by CNN about Dzhokhar. Everyone is finding it hard to believe that he would be involved in terrorist activities.

The video linked to below contains an interview with Zubeidat Tsarnaev. The father gave an interview in Russian. But in this interview with the mother, she is speaking in English. Here are some of the highlights from the the mom’s interview:

1. Like the father, the mother of these Tsarnaev brothers seems to think that they were framed.

2. It seems she is talking about a setup because she simply doesn’t believe her son is a terrorist. But she has some strange rationale for that, claiming that there is no way the son would keep it a secret. This is very odd reasoning. It is extremely common for a child to keep criminal tendencies away from their friends and family. But it is understandable because she is in denial.

Note that it seems like she is talking about Dzhokhar in this part of the interview. The reason I say that is keep reading below.

3. Dzhokhar was raised in America from the age of 8. Tamerlan was also raised properly. There was no talk of terrorism in the house.

4. I do believe she is being honest about whatever she is saying, even if it is not realistic. This is because she says Tamerlan was getting involved heavily in religion about 5 years ago. And she claims the FBI knew what Tamerlan was doing. At the same time, she says she didn’t know he was into Jihad. So she is kind of contradicting herself here or at least not being totally clear about what she means. If there is no indication he is into Jihad, then why would the FBI be tracking him? This is not clear from the interview. It is also not clear how she supposedly knows that the FBI had any interest in Tamerlan’s activities. Her English is not totally precise. But it sounds she might be saying that she thinks the FBI set Tamerlan up all along.
