CNN News Video – International Olympic Committee (IOC) Responds To Chinese Swimmer Ye Shiwen Doping Rumors

The following CNN sports news video is about the London 2012 Summer Olympics. It was uploaded to the CNN website on July 31, 2012.

There is a big controversy in London at the swimming venue. 16-year-old Chinese female swimmer Ye Shiwen won the 400 meter individual medley in world-record time, but that is not the real controversy that started doping rumors. Ye actually swam the last 50 meters faster than Ryan Lochte, something that seems extremely rare and unlikely just from a biological perspective. While this is not proof positive that Shiwen is doping, it is certainly suspicious. It should be noted that her overall time for the whole race was about 23 seconds slower than Lochte and well slower than all 8 men in the 4 X 100 medley men’s final.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) spokesman Mark Adams says the doping rumors are just that – pure rumors. Adams also clarified that the top 5 swimmers in each final plus two other random swimmers are tested after the race. He also said that it takes about 24 hours to get urine results back and 72 hours to get back blood results. According to him, there have been no reports of illegal doping from any swimmers so far in London 2012.
