CNN News Video – Cape Cod And Chatham, Massachusetts Beaches On Alert After Sightings of Two Great White Sharks

The following CNN news video is relevant to swimmers along Cape Cod. It was uploaded to the CNN website on July 6, 2012.

Two great white sharks were spotted on Cape Cod. They were near Massachusetts beaches.

Greg Skomal is a shark specialist who is interviewed for this story. He confirms that there is a “shark season” of sorts in New England. The sharks migrate there during the summer as the waters become warmer.

Chatham, Massachusetts was the location of a great white shark sighting. The harbormaster gave a warning instead of closing the beaches.

Skomal says the sharks come to eat seals in the area. He recommends staying away from the seals for that very reason.

As scary as sharks seem to the average person, there hasn’t been a single reported shark attack on a human in Massachusetts since 1936.
