The following CNN crime news video is about a university professor who is accused of arson at a high school that his son attended before the latter committed suicide. The video was added to CNN’s video collection on August 1, 2012.
Rainer Reinscheid is a pharmacology professor at UC-Irvine. His son committed suicide while attending high school. And the professor is now accused of and charged with arson for setting fire to that same high school.
I suppose the working theory here is that he was getting some kind of revenge. Reinscheid may have blamed things that happened at the school (bullying or other social problems) for his son’s death. At any rate, the police say they caught him red handed trying to set a fire. The police were already on the lookout for an arsonist because there were several fires in that area this year. Reinscheid’s son was 14 when he killed himself in March of 2012.
The defendant was also allegedly planning to get weapons and do violence at the school, including assaulting school officials and committing sexual assaults.
