This is a gruesome story about a deadly murder-suicide in Camden, New Jersey. According to an Associated Press report, mother Chevonne Thomas (33) killed her own 2-year-old by decapitating his head. After the killer called 911, the police arrived. This is when they found the boy’s body and then separately his head in the freezer.
Before Thomas was apprehended by police, she committed suicide by stabbing herself in the neck.
As AP continues to investigate, more troubling details are coming out about this case. For example, the Chevonne Thomas had already lost custody of the boy in the past. AP quoted authorities as saying she had resumed custody only about 5 months before this horrific decapitation murder of her own son. However, the reason for stripping custody from her, while serious, was more of a case of child neglect than physical abuse. She had left Zahree in a car by himself while doing drugs.
Did Chevonne Thomas get custody back too early? That’s hard to say without seeing more facts. But the gross neglect she showed and the drug addiction was probably enough to keep custody away from her for much longer. At least wait until the boy is at least 5 or 6 so that he can probably avoid burning to death in a car or something the next time she relapses.
