Chron.com reports that Baytown, Texas teen, Shawn Williams, Jr., was killed as a result of a high-speed police chase caused by Shannon Joe Chauncey. The chase ensued after police caught Chauncey and passenger Jennifer Rene Jenkins shoplifting. This crime and accident occurred on Friday, October 19, 2012. The crash that killed Williams took place on Garth Road and Rollingbrook Drive.
1. Shawn Williams was only 16 years old. He lived in Baytown, but his father was also a minister in La Porte, Texas. Williams was the only victim to be killed in this incident.
2. An unidentified 17-year-old friend was driving the car occupied by Williams. He is said to be in critical condition.
3. Two other victims were also struck by suspect Chauncey in their vehicle. However, they did not suffer major injuries.
Chauncey and Jenkins hit the victims’ cars in the middle of the police chase. Their getaway car caught fire, but they were uninjured. Of course, both were arrested because they are both implicated in the initial shoplifting incident that led to this chase.
Shannon Joe Chauncey is 43 years old, and he lives in Crosby, Texas. Jennifer Rene Jenkins is 35 years old and comes from Highlands, Texas.
Both suspects are charged with multiple crimes. However, the one relevant to Williams’ untimely death is “evading arrest resulting in death and serious bodily injury.” Chauncey is expected to be prosecuted for that crime since he was the driver.
