Sebastian De La Cruz is an America’s Got Talent 7 contestant who auditioned for the show in Austin, Texas. His episode aired on Monday, June 4, 2012.
Sebastian is backed by a Mexican-style Mariachi band. Together, the act’s name is Sebastien and Mariachi “El Charro de Oro.” He sang in Spanish for his first audition. Sebastian is only 10 years old. He definitely has a good voice for this style of music and nice vocal control.
Predictions:
A mariachi band is going to have a hard time winning America’s Got Talent. The issues come down to uniqueness and difficulty level. Sebastian certainly sounds good, but the song style has a low difficulty level. And the style is just not unique. Singers I have heard singing in mariachi bands all sound pretty much the same. And the instrument players sound the same, as well. It is fun music to listen to, but it’s also fun singing “Happy Birthday.” But that doesn’t mean it fits in a talent contest.
The judges all said they loved it, and Sebastian and the band got three YESES and are off to Las Vegas. They might get a chance in the Top 48. But my prediction is that Sebastian De La Cruz and his mariachi band has virtually no chance of winning America’s Got Talent 7.
