The following ABC News crime video is about a UC-Irvine college professor who apparently used arson for revenge purposes. This video was uploaded to the ABC website on August 1, 2012.
Rainer Reinscheid is a pharmacology professor at the University of California at Irvine. Well, at least he was a professor there. Reinscheid has now been charged with setting fires to a high school that his son attended.
The son committed suicide at the age of 14. That was in March of 2012. Since that time, there was a series of arson fires in the area of the high school. Finally, police reportedly caught Reinscheid trying to start one of the fires.
The working motive theory here is that Rainer was extremely upset with the school. It seems that he is blaming the officials at the high school for his son’s suicide. The son was disciplined for some reason.
One UC-Irvine student interviewed on this tape says he is shocked because UC-Irvine is a very safe community.
When it comes to sentencing, this guy could easily get the maximum. Emails were allegedly found detailing plans to do more violence and kill people after buying guns.
